Home Sweet Home!

Made it home safe and sound yesterday (thanks for picking us up Alison!), happy reunion with the kitties and we’re having fun unpacking all our crap haha!

Today we had some last stops at dad and Ton and Rita, then drove to our hotel in Leiden. Ton picked us up later to go downtown and meet up with Martijn and Sander for supper and some sightseeing. It’s like mini-Amsterdam there with the old houses and canals! We just packed and weighed our suitcases and had to leave some items behind haha… too much souvenirs and candy, as per usual :O

Last Days In The Cottage

The last days at the Bikkels were filled with a few more visits to dad, some last shopping in Eindhoven, more food at the snackbar in town, another walk in the forest and oh let’s not forget that huge egg roll and babi pangang in the Chinese-Indonesian restaurant near dad! Time to pack again… tomorrow we go back to Leiden and Saturday we have to fly home again!

Relaxing In The Woods

Finally more time to relax in this beautiful place! Yesterday we had to pick up our new passports in Bergeijk, had a coffee with old friend Corry who lives pretty close by in Eersel and dropped by Leon and Els again for the last time. Then back in Vlierden we had supper at the fantastic snackbar in town, oooooh that sateh (peanut) sauce! And fries and snacks and people.. we’ve been regulars there 🙂 Today we had a lot of fun with Nico’s former coworkers Brigitte and Nathalie coming by. After their visit we still had time to finally go for that walk in the park and the woods around it and read my new Asterix comic on the patio. So pretty and relaxing!!!

Open House Was A Success!

Well, our “open house” weekend was a success! We had a lot of visitors and it was a lot of fun…. and still felt really relaxed for us since we didn’t have to go anywhere! Just make coffee, get drinks and such 😛 I tried to make selfies with everyone, but still forgot a few, damn!

Limburg, Dessel

Had two busy days! Thursday we drove to our old hometown area in the south of Limburg. We had a quick stop in downtown Heerlen to pop in at Satisfaction, the record store, and then had a great visit with old neighbours Vera and Rob (Lea also came by)! After that we drove to Schin Op Geul where I was reunited with old friend Corine and her family after many many years! She cooked up a whole Indonesian rice table for us, wow! Great times with her whole family <3 On Friday we visited dad again, then Jos and Hennie (Wilma was also there) and drove to Dessel for a BBQ with Erik and Marjan and Cordy, Anneke and Marcelino were also there! Another wonderful day with family and friends <3 Of course we got home late on both nights, so we're glad that we don't have to go anywhere this weekend - we're letting "everyone" come to us!

Bergeijk, Eindhoven

It’s great to be at the Bikkels again, we truly enjoy the cottage and it’s setting in the forest, it’s gorgeous! Unfortunately we’re running around a lot and haven’t had much time yet to just relax or go for a walk. Yesterday we had an appointment in the city hall of Bergeijk, one of the border cities where we (as Dutch living abroad) could renew our passports. After that we visited Els and Leon again and had supper there. Today we did some shopping in Eindhoven and visited dad again, Amalia was there too this time!

We woke up early, so we still saw Leon and Els before they went to work. We drove to Eindhoven, to have some breakfast at the bakery near dad and then we went over to visit him. So good to see him again! After a few hours we drove to Forest Park the Bikkels in Vlierden (the park where we rented a cottage) to register, went for grocery shopping in Deurne and settled into the cottage. Neat!!

Arrived In Holland!

We arrived on Amsterdam Airport (Schiphol) around 8am, it took a while to get the rental car, but then we could go to Nieuw Vennep, to Ton and Rita! We had a coffee there and Ton took us to Leiden to see Sander and Martijn for a little bit. We made plans to look them up on the way back as well.

Although we were tired, we drove all the way to Bergeijk, to Els and Leon, time to catch up and we’ll be staying the first night here. They just took us to a Greek restaurant in Valkenswaard, yum! But now we can’t keep our eyes open anymore (we didn’t nap)!

Visiting John & Diana In West-Kelowna!

On March 3rd we finally flew to Kelowna to spend some time with our friends John and Diana! This had been in the works for a few years, so we were beyond excited! We just wanted to spend time with them and be in that area, we didn’t have any specific wishes for sightseeing and all that – we just loved being back in our beloved (West-}Kelowna.

We flew very early and because of a last minute trip to Holland, John and Diana wouldn’t be home until later that day. But we could get the key from a neighour and other friends in the same (Glenrosa) neighbourhood stepped up big time: Mathilda Looman came to pick us up from the airport, we settled in at John and Diana’s house, walked to Hans and Mathilda’s house to have lunch and later we went to dinner with them in Peachland (Gasthaus On The Lake)! Because of a delay and missed connection, John and Diana didn’t get home until 9pm, but we did have a great day with the Loomans! Thanks guys!

On the 4th and 5th we relaxed, walked around in the neighbourhood, did some geocaching and just had a lot of quality time together <3 On the 6th we drove to Peachland for a walk along the lake and some shopping and we went to the Loomans for “gourmetten” (meal with raclette grills on the table). On the 7th we did some shopping in Kelowna. We also met up with our friend Linda again! On the 8th we drove up the mountain for some great scenery and views and in the evening we flew home again.
