Since the weather forecasts were the best for the SW part of our province, we decided to go back to Cypress Hills. As we didn’t reserve a site, we ended up at the Terrace Campground, which was just as beautiful as the Rainbow where we stayed last year. The sites were a bit smaller and it was harder to find one that was level enough, but we ended up with #63 on a high spot overlooking all the lower levels (terraces). Gorgeous!

We got there early in the evening last Wednesday (2nd), after having a great supper at MeiMei’s (Chinese) in Swift Current. The next day we walked to the campground office (to register) and to the core area. We spent some time in the patio of the visitor centre overlooking Loch Leven – it was ‘only’ 16°C but it felt wonderful in the sun, true t-shirt weather over here After enjoying the weather and the view for a few hours we had some fast food (near the mini golf) for supper on our way back to the campground. The distances weren’t as far as we remembered from the first time. Our whole loop today was little over 4 km (from campsite to lake was 1.3 km)!

On Friday we drove to Maple Creek and the West Block to visit the Fort Walsh National Historic Site and the Conglomerate Cliffs. It was a pretty long drive but beautiful. The Fort Walsh tour with actors was fun and the view from the Cliffs spectacular! On our last day, the Saturday, we had some rain showers, but we also played mini golf and hiked around the campground areas during the sunny periods  in between. Again we didn’t see any moose on this trip, but a lot of deer, antelope, coyotes and a gazillion cows (see pics in the album)

Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park – Terrace Campground

One of the many campgrounds in the Centre Block, in a gorgeous forest setting. Terrace has 4 levels (terraces), it was 1-1.5 km away from the core area. We had an electric site for $22 and bought a Provincial Parks year pass for $50.  There was a service centre with showers, but also small toilet buildings that had flush toilets and were very clean!Beautiful park, and it was nice to have all the extras open (store, food, visitor centre patio), as our first two visits were outside the season.

Sinds het weerbericht het beste was voor het ZW deel van onze provincie, besloten we naar Cypress Hills terug te gaan. Aangezien we geen plek gereserveerd hadden, kwamen we op de Terrace Camping terecht, die net zo mooi was als de Rainbow waar we vorig jaar waren. De plekken waren iets kleiner en het was wat lastig een plek te vinden die vlak genoeg was, maar we kwamen uit op nr. 63 op een hooggelegen plek die over alle lagergelegen delen (terrassen) keek. Prachtig!

We kwamen er in de vroege woensdagavond aan (2e), na een goed maal bij MeiMei’s (Chinees) in Swift Current. De volgende dag wandelden we naar het camping kantoor (om te registreren) en naar het centrum van het park. We bleven een tijd op het terrasje van het bezoekerscentrum zitten met uitzicht op Loch Leven – het was ‘slechts’ 16°C maar het voelde heerlijk aan in de zon, echt t-shirt weer hier Na een paar uur van het uitzicht en het weer genoten te hebben, aten we wat snacks (bij de mini golf) als avondeten op de weg terug naar de camping. De afstanden waren niet zo groot als dat we ons herinnerden. Onze hele ronde vandaag was ruim 4 km (van de camping naar het meer was 1.3 km)!

Op vrijdag reden we naar Maple Creek en het West Block en bezochten we de Fort Walsh National Historic Site en de Conglomerate Cliffs. Het was een best lange rit, maar erg mooi. De tour in Fort Walsh met acteurs was leuk en het uitzicht van de klippen spectaculair! Op onze laatste dag, zaterdag, hadden we wat regenbuien, maar we hebben ook mini golf gespeeld en rond de campings gewandeld tijdens de zonnige perioden. Opnieuw zagen we geen elanden op deze trip, maar wel veel herten, pronghorns (gaffelbokken), coyotes en tig koeien (zie foto’s in het album)

Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park – Terrace Camping

Een van de vele campings in het Centre Block, in een prachtige bosrijke omgeving. Terrace heeft 4 levels (terrassen), het was 1-1.5 km van het centrum van het park. We hadden een plek met stroom voor $22 en kochten een Provincial Parks jaarpas voor $50. Er was een service centre met douches, maar ook kleine toiletgebouwtjes met doorspoel-toiletten en erg schoon! Mooi park en het was fijn dat alle extra’s open waren (winkel, eten, terrasje bezoekerscentrum), aangezien onze beide eerste bezoekjes buiten het seizoen waren.
