We are Nico and Marlies Wobben and in February 2008 we moved from the Netherlands to Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada! Nico is an RN at the General Hospital and I (Marlies) work from home, as an administrator at Canada Life and for my own web design business Feel The Fire. And we have 7 cats!

Answers About My Back And Leg Pain!

Today I had an EMG at the hospital, where they checked my leg / sciatic nerve because of the issues I’ve had. All was well, and it looks like it never was a sciatic nerve issue, but irritation of the piriformis muscle in the same area. What he told me about it exactly matched my symptoms and what I did for relief. I’m still not all healed, I still have to limit sitting, but there still is slow progress, my walking is improving, I do my stretches and according to the neurologist I just have to keep doing what I do and I should be fine 🙂

Kitchen / Bathroom Reno

After wrecking my back in November, it took me months to slooowly finish the cabinet doors. In May I was finally done, and I cried a little! Here are a few before and after pics!

Short Hair!

When growing out your red dye becomes too ugly, there is only one solution… chop chop!! It’ll grow again… but wait, I’m actually liking this a lot! :O

Meeting Shawn Again!

We hadn’t seen Shawn Drover (who we met in his Eidolon days) since he was in Megadeth, back when we still lived in Holland! So great to see him again!! His new band Act Of Defiance was playing the Exchange with Untimely Demise \m/

Happy Holidays And Best Wishes For 2016!

It’s almost 2016 already… what did prairie life bring us in 2015?

First of all, a nice car upgrade (2011 Dodge Journey) in January! In April we finally had our roof redone and in the summer we had many great camping trips in our beautiful province again, together with our kitties. In September/October we went to Europe to attend the Progpower festival in Baarlo, which is always like a big family reunion :), to visit family and friends in Holland and to spend a few days in Luxembourg and Germany.

Recently we’ve had Boyd do some renovations in the upstairs bathroom and kitchen, but unfortunately I (Marlies) haven’t been able to finish my part yet, which was refinishing the kitchen cabinet doors. I hurt my back with that and had to stop for now. My doc suspects a bulging or herniated disc and esp. a pinched sciatic nerve is keeping me pretty immobilized for now. Hopefully it will heal soon!

So because of this, the holidays will be fairly quiet for us, but we’re looking forward to spending it with friends: supper on Christmas Day and Boxing Day and a small get together on New Year’s Eve instead of the usual big party (sorry, we can’t host one this year because of my back). I hope your holidays are filled with as much love as ours!

Merry Xmas and a very happy 2016!!

Happy Holidays And Best Wishes For 2015!

2014 was another year of loving life on the prairies for us!

Highlights were a little winter trip to the Resort at Cypress Hills, the winter Olympics, weekend camping trips to a.o. Candle Lake, Duck Mountain and the Hartwell cabin (friends at Buffalo Pound), the big camping trip to the Rockies with our Dutch friend Miranda, seeing Heart live front row (and Ann Wilson telling Nico, who had been headbanging, that he had some fantastic hair, we had dozens of people coming up to him or cheering at us after the show for that remark!), Marlies finally getting her learner’s driver’s licence and the new addition to our family, kitty #7, Arya! Luckily (and knock on wood), no real lows for us directly, but it was heartbreaking to see a beloved family in pain after losing one of their own.

Winter came in really cold for a little bit in November, but has been pretty mild so far in December. Enough snow and frost for winter wonderland without it being too much to enjoy 🙂 Despite working a lot on or around this Xmas, we are also celebrating it with friends and then looking forward to hosting our annual NYE party!

Merry Xmas and a very happy 2015!!

Visit From John And Diana!

Our friends from our hometown, who now live in Kelowna, are visiting us for a couple of days! YAY!

Meet Arya!

I’ve caved in… we just have too much love to give and there are so many kitties out there who need it… it is time for #7! And 8, 9 and 10 Nico says, but let’s go with 7 first (as much as I’d also love to have 50 cats, we must draw a line somewhere.. just not sure where that would be LOL). We adopted Stella (now Arya after Game Of Thrones character Arya Stark) from the Regina Cat Rescue!
