Sept. 9th – Calgary

09.15-10.54 flight AC 8585 Saskatoon – Calgary

This morning Brent dropped us off at the airport for our early flight to Calgary. We got a very small plane (maybe 50 seats) but the flight was again real smooth. We went to our friend Derek’s workplace that was not far from the airport to drop off the luggage and then went to downtown by bus and train. We went up in the Tower for a 360 degree view over the Calgary area! You could see the first lower mountains of the Rockies but no white peaks and such. We spent some time at Stephen Avenue and some malls and then went to Derek’s home. In the meantime he got a ride home after work, with our luggage. We went to get some food at Taco Bell and crashed on his couch to watch metal videos, discuss metal… and update our blog :)

A quick update from Brent’s in Saskatoon, tomorrow morning we fly to Calgary!

Sept. 8th – Regina, Saskatoon

Today we got up at 7 already (again) but we slept real well, so we’re happy:) Tim’s dad Jack called to take us all out for breakfast and he took us to Stan’s Diner, a cosy and incredibly friendly place. We had the Hungrymen’s Breakfast (eggs, toast, baked potatoes, ham, bacon, sausages), our first real Canadian breakfast and we loved it!!!

A few hours later we went to Saskatoon (little over 2 hours from here) to visit Brent and Jen. Alina and Tim drove us there through the prairies, the weather was perfect so we got to see what the prairies look like. Not at all as dull as people say! There’s still a lot of variety in the scenery. There’s so much space and crisp clear air *sigh*! We got to Saskatoon a bit early so we spent some time along the riverside. Tim had to be back in time for bandpractice so they couldn’t stay longer. It was our goodbye to Alina, because she had to go back to the States before we would return to Regina. We went to Tony Roma’s (ribs) with Brent and Jen and hung out at their house for the rest of the night and played with the cats:) Master Brent (hehe) is the owner of saskmetal.com, the forum for Saskatchewan metalfans and my favorite online community – and Brent’s become a real good friend :)

Sept. 7th – Regina

We went to Wal-Mart with Tim and Alina for some shopping (clothes are cheeeaaaap!) and later on we met some friends at Tim’s place and watched the Wacken DVD we gave Tim. We also went to visit a couple of recordstores in town. In the evening we went to Into Eternity’s bandpractice and got to hear Adam and Dean play/sing with the band for the first time :) They are both from the States and staying in Regina to prepare for a European tour in October. We’re gonna miss all the upcoming shows (one in Regina and a festival in the States), but at least we got this little private performance :P Afterwards we just hung out a bit and had pizza. I tried to reach my dad’s cellphone to congratulate his gf for her birthday, but it didn’t work – happy birthday Amalia!!

flight to Regina – we arrived safe and sound!

our plane to Toronto

Good morning! We arrived here in Regina safe and sound last night! After a short first night I already got up at 7am (jetlag..) and had my first real Canadian shower ;) Here’s yesterday’s story:

Sept. 6th – flight to Regina

11.40 shuttle bus home – Düsseldorf airport.
14.40-15.30 flight AC 9124 Düsseldorf – Frankfurt
17.05-19.10 (local times!) flight AC 877 Frankfurt – Toronto
20.40-21.57 (local times!) flight AC 1127 Toronto – Regina (6am here in Holland)

Finally the day had come to travel all the way to Canada! Our shuttle bus trip to Düsseldorf and the flights were simply perfect! As always the seats were kinda tight for people of our size hehe… but the space for the legs was pretty ok and the service of Air Canada was great! The flying itself was extremely smooth, incredible how little you feel in a big airplane. The connections were too tight, though. You think you’ll have an hour time, but you need it for check-ins, customs and boarding. In Frankfurt we got to the gate when they just started boarding (but we didn’t have a chance to go into a shop or something) and in Toronto we barely made it to the other plane in time, they were already waiting for us! First they take you with busses from one terminal to another that seemed kilometres away, then you go through customs but we had to go to the immigration desk (maybe because it was my first time in Canada?). Then we got the luggage and then… we had no clue where to go next for our next flight. We kinda got lost a few times, if you have never been there before you just don’t know where to go next, what signs to follow or what the procedure is. With some help and a lot of running we barely made it in time, phew!!

In Regina we were welcomed by a whole bunch of my saskmetal friends, thanks guys! That ruled (saskmetal rules haha)! It made us feel really welcome! Russ made a banner to welcome us “Hollish” people haha! It’s so cool to meet people that you’re talking with so often and seen so many pics of – I felt right at home:) We went to Tim’s (very cosy) house to drop off the luggage, meet up with Dean (friend of mine from NY but also in Regina to prepare for a tour with Tim’s band Into Eternity) and then went to Boston Pizza for a bit of food and beer:) I had a nap on the last flight and I was wide awake haha! We got to bed at 2am.

WE’RE EXCITEEEEEEEEEEEEEED!
